If you've never played balloons before, no fear! The main thing to know is that Keep-Up is competitive. You aren't working with the other player to keep the balloon off of the ground, you're trying to beat them. The goal of Keep-Up is to hit the balloon away from the other player and have it hit the ground before they can get to it. Once you hit the balloon, it's your opponents turn to hit it back to you.
All you need it a friend and a balloon! For balloons, we find that Dollar Tree balloons work great and a cheap. If you don't have a friend, convince one of your siblings to get off of Fortnite and play with you. The fun part of Keep-Up is that you can play anywhere! We recommend playing somewhere with a lot of obstacles, but nothing that can break too easily
Spiking is generally not allowed in Keep-Up. The only time you are allowed to spike is if you spike the balloon off of another person. Otherwise, no slamming the balloon into the ground to end the game in 1.3 seconds. Along with spiking, light taps of the balloon are not allowed. You can't wait until the balloon is inches off of the ground and then barely touch it. All hits must have a fair amount of force applied to them.
If your mom will agree to let you play somewhere with furniture, know that it makes a great obstacle! Only the ground counts as out, so if the balloon hits the furniture, it's still fair game. However, once it's laying on a table or couch, you only have five seconds to hit the balloon. So no waiting 5 minutes before your opponent falls asleep to win.
Generally, players play Keep-Up by hitting the balloon with your hand. However, you're always allowed to hit the balloon with your feet, head, elbow, or any part of the body. Just know, the hit must be intentional. If you accidentally hit the balloon, that doesn't count as a hit.
Besides the baseline 1v1, here are many other ways to play Keep-Up. One popular variation is 2v2, where each team alternates hits until the balloon hits the ground. Another fun way to play is feet only, where hands are not allowed. You can also play outside, in a pool, or on the beach. That's the fun thing about Keep-Up: you play how you want! If you don't like some of these rules, play in other ways! Just be sure to have fun.
